Lincoln Little is a proud Westmorelite by birth. He hails from the humble community of Blackness, Burnt Savanna. He had his formative educational exposure at Gang Gang Basic School and later, Mount Grace All-Age School. Lincoln migrated to the parish of St Elizabeth upon gaining acceptance to St Elizabeth Technical High School through the Common Entrance Examination. There he excelled not only academically but in sport. His sport of passion was and still is Cricket. He represented St Elizabeth Technical High School in the Headley Cup Competition 1978-79 which was St Elizabeth Technical High School’s first victory at the Headley Cup competition. Incidentally, that team is now in its 40thear and earlier this month the members of that original team were honoured at St Elizabeth Technical High School. Lincoln Little did not limit himself to just cricket, in 1975 he gained the Class 3 Triple Jump Recorder and held that title for many years.
Lincoln made his exit from STETHS and was matriculated to enter the University of the West Indies to pursue his career of passion, Medicine. He spent his first year at the UWI and was later granted an Indian Government Cultural Scholarship to complete his medical training at King George’s Medical College, Lucknow. Whilst in India, Lincoln balanced his time with academics and sports. In 1986 he was made Best Student Sportsman because of his all-round involvement in sports. He returned to Jamaica in 1988 and undertook his medical internship at Mandeville Public Hospital and later his surgical residence at the said hospital. In that same year, Lincoln was elected as the Central Region Representative of the Jamaica Medical Doctors’ Association.
1990 saw Dr. Little opening his private practice in the town of Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth. One of his very first charitable commitments was to return to his Secondary School and offer overall medical care and support to the sporting teams of the school. Almost thirty years later he is still serving in that capacity. As a medical Doctor, Lincoln is known to be that doctor who has no bounds to where he travels to “meet his patients at their point of need”. Of you will hear the more mature members of the community refer to him as “Mi Bwoy” as he is seen as everybody’s son. Every community member seems to have a claim of him. For Dr Little, this is special. He lost his mother at a very tender age and later his dad, so for him to be seen as the “Village” kid, is a great honour.
The love and appreciation for the work his does in the parish did not go unnoticed. Back in 1992, the Santa Cruz Rotary Club bestowed on him the Man of the Year Award for his outstanding contribution to community development.
In the year 2011, STETHS celebrated its 50th Anniversary and part of its celebratory activities was to launch the St Elizabeth Technical High School Hall of FAME. STETHS Hall of Fame was established to identify and honor those individuals who have excelled in their fields of endeavour, to enhance STETHS and its programs, to maintain and promote the heritage, tradition and camaraderie amongst the STETHS Family, honour special service to the school, illicit continued identity and support to the school and serve as a vehicle for promoting STETHS as an institution worthy of continued support. Six Past Students were inducted into the Hall of FAME on that occasion, one of who was Dr. Lincoln L Little for his contribution to Medical Services to the school and the parish of St Elizabeth.
Dr Little is a founding member and Director of Medical Services for MistyBlue Cancer Cancer Care Foundation. What inspired you to take on this role? What have been your rewards? What has kept your motivated, bearing in mind you do not live in the parish and mange a very busy private practice?
The Foundation hosts an average of seven health fairs across the parish each year offering diagnostic and preventative screening for Cervical, Breast and Prostate Cancer; Diabetes, Cholesterol, Heart Diseases, HIV & Syphilis and Optical Screening. In addition to our health outreach, we host fundraising events, church services and other community sensitization events. Dr Little is that one Dr who has been present at every health fair and almost all other events executed by the Foundation. His support in service and financial contribution has no bounds. Members of the Foundation’s Executive, volunteers and partnership agencies have come to respect and depend on his reliability and sensitivity towards those whom he serves.
There is no question as to whether Dr Lincoln Little created great changes in the lives of many by the way he gave. We are honoured to have him as part of our group and look forward to working with him in serving the citizenry of Westmoreland and its environs. Dr Little is the proud father of four children and one granddaughter. His children are following in his footsteps, two of his sons are in the medical field, with one doing stem cell research. His only daughter is a final year medical Student and his other son is a computer engineer. An extremely proud father and grandfather.
